    Kastaplast Berg Review

In a market flooded with copycat discs that look, feel, and perform more or less the same, the distinctive Kastaplast Berg stands apart. This utility approach disc is one of the most reliable and predictable putters we have in stock. This Kastaplast Berg review will go beyond the internet hype and explain what makes this popular disc for sale so unique.

    Kastaplast Berg Plastics

Disc aficionados revere Kastaplast for its comfortable yet durable plastic blends. Every company claims it has the highest-quality plastic, but in the case of Kastaplast, it may be true.

    • K1: Combines exceptional durability with a soft and grippy feel. While many premium plastics have a stiff and slick texture, Kastaplast threads the needle to produce an ultra-tough blend that maintains some flex and a comfortable hand feel.
    • K1 Soft: A gummy and flexible blend with exceptional grip in all weather conditions.
    • K1 Glow: A bright and long-lasting glow that will stay lit for several holes of night golf.
    • K3: The "base" plastic blend. It is less durable but has a superior grip.
    • K3 Hard: A stiffer version of K3

    Kastaplast Berg Flight Numbers

    • Speed: 1
    • Glide: 1
    • Turn: 0
    • Fade: 2

The slow and steady Berg doesn't like to glide, and that's a good thing. After it runs out of speed, it drops out of the sky and lands with minimal ground play. This makes it a fantastic approach disc, allowing for aggressive runs at the green without risking blow-bys and roll-aways. It will hold a hyzer and get some horizontal movement, but this is not a shot-shaper.

On the putting green, the Berg will essentially eliminate the dreaded "three-putt."  If it misses, it's not going very far. It is perfect for safe lay-up putts on steep hillsides or in windy conditions. However, its lack of glide and propensity for falling short limit the Berg's upside as a primary putter.

    Dimensions

    • Diameter: 21.1cm
    • Height: 2.0cm
    • Rim Depth: 1.4cm
    • Rim Width: 0.9cm

The Berg's unique shape promotes comfort and reliability over aerodynamics. Its recessed flight plate and raised shoulder make a natural "thumb track" on the top of the rim. This creates an ergonomic design that naturally slots into a deep position in the hand. The Berg feels great in both the backhand and forehand grips.

    History

Released in 2015, the Berg has become Kastaplast's flagship mold. It was the company's third disc, and organically built a cult following through word-of-mouth and internet chatter. The Berg is the perfect introduction to the Kastaplast brand and fulfills the company's mission to innovate and experiment with new designs.

    Skill Level Recommendations

    • Novice: Beginners are better off with a traditional putter at first, but the Berg is a good addition to the bag once they learn throwing fundamentals.
    • Intermediate: An ultra-predictable approach disc and a stroke-saver on the green.
    • Advanced: A niche disc that plays a complementary role. You never know when you might need the unique flight of the Berg.
    • Pro: Most Kastaplast-sponsored pros carry a Berg in the bag as a utility approach disc. Eric Oakley has a signature Berg available in our store now.
