An industry titan as we know it, Innova Disc Golf was formed in 1983 to create equipment for emerging disc golfers. Dave Dunipace created the world’s first disc patented specifically for the sport, called the Eagle. This disc established Innova as an immediate trendsetter for years to come, changing the game forever with its many innovations (true to their name).

In the 1970s, Dave Dunipace was an avid disc golf player (and still is). In those days, he would try to form his own disc golf shapes out of the existing blunt-edged discs to improve his game, eventually inventing the aerodynamic beveled-rim disc as we know it today.

The name “Innova” has multiple meanings. Obviously, the nod to innovation is there, as the company seeks to bring new ideas and products to further the game of disc golf. Dave has also mentioned that “nova” is an essential theme as novas are stars that release vast bursts of energy, much like how the company exploded onto the scene with its ideas and designs.

Innova was the first disc golf manufacturer to sponsor a professional disc golfer. By signing Ken Climo, “The Champ” would win 12 PDGA World Championships. Longtime team member Juliana Korver has worked tirelessly to grow female involvement. Other big names that Innova has sponsored include Ricky Wysocki, Nate Sexton, Calvin Heimburg, Garrett Gurthie, Philo Brathwaite, Ohn Scoggins, and Henna Blomroos.
